چکیده

High oxygen conductivities can be achieved in cation ordered LnxZrl_=O2_l x (Ln=Gd, Nd) solid solutions with pyrochlore (P) structure. High values of the pre-exponentlal factor °o are correlated with the degree of anion disorder in the 8b oxygen sublattice (neutron diffraction). The activation energy AH is lowered by cation ordering (F-P transition; effect of x) due to the occurence of a preferential diffusion path. Maximum oxygen conductivity is achieved in (l-x)Bi203-x Ln203 solid solutions with fluorite related 6-Bi203 structure for Ln = Er and x = 0.20. Neutron diffraction measurements indicate the occurrence of short range ordering in "Er-O units" with relative small interatomic distances at T < 820 K. This leads to an increased activation energy.

Oxygen Ion and Mixed Conductivity in Compounds with the Fluorite and Pyrochlore Structure

The effect of pyrochlore order in solid solutions with the defect fluorite structure was studied. The amount of order was changed by various heat treatments or by varying the cation composition. Examples of short range order and microdomainformation have been observed in Tb2Zr207+x and Gd2Zr207. Pyrochlore order results in a decrease of the activation enthalpy and pre-exponential factor for oxy...

Fast ion conductivity in strained defect-fluorite structure created by ion tracks in Gd2Ti2O7

The structure and ion-conducting properties of the defect-fluorite ring structure formed around amorphous ion-tracks by swift heavy ion irradiation of Gd2Ti2O7 pyrochlore are investigated. High angle annular dark field imaging complemented with ion-track molecular dynamics simulations show that the atoms in the ring structure are disordered, and have relatively larger cation-cation interspacing...

Oxygen-release/storage properties of Ce0.5M0.5O2 (M = Zr, Hf) oxides: interplay of crystal chemistry and electronic structure.

Fluorite-type Ce0.5Zr0.5O2 and Ce0.5Hf0.5O2 have been synthesized by a solution combustion route, and their oxygen release and reduction have been investigated up to 850 degrees C. On reduction, the zirconium system forms two pyrochlore phases, Ce2Zr2O7 (pyrochlore-I) and Ce2Zr2O6.2 (pyrochlore-II), while the hafnium system forms only a disordered fluorite phase with the composition Ce0.5Hf0.5O...

Electrical and Catalytic Properties of Some Oxides with the Fluorite or Pyrochlore Structure Part I: Synthesis, Characterization and Conductivity

In view of their possible use as electrocatalysts, several oxides with the fluorite or pyrochlore structure were investigated. Part I of this paper deals with the synthesis, characterization and electrical conductivity of these materials. All lanthanide titanates investigated (partly doped with Bi) show the pyrochlore structure and are poor conductors, except for the compounds containing Tb. Fo...

Electrical and Catalytic Properties of Some Oxides with the Fluorite or Pyrochlore Structure Part 2 : Catalytic Oxidation of Carbon Monoxide

The catalytic properties of mixed oxides with the fluorite or pyrochlore structure were investigated using CO oxidation. The presence of ions with a variable valence state, the size of the ions and especially the extent of pyrochlore ordering affect kinetic behaviour and activity of the investigated materials.
